We just finished up a stay at Eisenhower State Park on the border of Texas and Oklahoma.
Cleanliness - 8 - We even saw a volunteer going around picking up trash. None at our site! :)
Bathrooms - 6 - Very nice hot showers, but no soap for washing your hands and no doors on the shower stalls or toilet stalls.
Facility fun - 6 - Small playground, Lake Texoma is here with amazing views and a nice little beach.
Staff - 7 - Typical State Park Rangers. Professional.
Roominess 8 - crowded on Saturday, but we still felt we had plenty of room. Sunday night was very quiet.
Overall - 7
Hey, there! We're a homeschooling family of 6 who plans to hit the road in the next year or so.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you're in our neck of the woods (N LA, just 3 miles south of AR) and there is some amazing camping in AR. The state parks are nice, but there are some army corps and forest service sites worth trying, too.
Also to note, the http://www.midamericamuseum.org/ in Hot Springs AR has the least expensive family membership ($65) on the list of over 200 museums which would get free entrance... we just went to Space Center in Huntsville (our admission would have been $70) and Tullis Museum in Cartersville GA for free!

Bethany, thanks for the tips. When do you hope to hit the road?
ReplyDeleteWe will be in Arkansas next fall. We have some work to do in Oklahoma and Kansas in November and then its far south Texas and Mexico in December.
We would love to see you guys on the
Road sometime! What are the ages of your kids?
ReplyDeleteOur kiddos are 9, 7, 4, and 5 months. We hope to hit the road as soon as God prepares the way for us.
ReplyDeleteIf y'all are into real Mexican (not tex-mex) food, La Mexicana in Irving TX (on Story just N of 183) has the most AMAZING brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings (till around 1)
