150 places we have been but did not go on this trip

So we got to thinking of all the places we have been in America and Canada that we did not visit on this trip and would still recommend as fun places to stop and see. We came up with 150 places either Patsy or I have been to in these two great countries that we did not visit during our Napkin Dreams Excursion. Arkansas - our 30th state

We have now visited three-fifths of the states on our Napkin Dreams trip. Arkansas had the distinction of being number thirty. How many will we get to? Forty, forty-nine, maybe even fifty? Time will tell how far we get!

Campground review - Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park

We found a super nice and basically quiet little campground near Huntington called the Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park! We also got to spend some time with another full-time family here.

Staff - 7 - Staff is not around a bunch, but they are very friendly when they are there. Of course we stayed here off-season.

Nearby attractions - 7 - Just outside of Huntington.

Natural surroundings - 8 - On the Ohio river. Airpark is used only for skydivers, not very often. Train does go by campground about twice a day, never late or early when we were there.

Value - 8 - We paid just under $20 a night as an average for a pull-through gravel site using Passport America for the first two nights, full price the third night.

Bathrooms - 8 - Bathrooms were clean.

Roominess - 7 - Site was long enough but slightly smallish in the width. Fortunately there was no one parked on either side of us.

Facility fun - 8 - Volleyball pit and a club house with free billiards game! No playground

Cleanliness - 9 -  Nice and fresh!

Facility usefulness - 7 - Clubhouse, fire rings, laundry, picnic tables. free wifi.

Overall - 8 - We made full use of the clubhouse with a dinner with Patsy's friend EJ and playing pool quite a few times!

Fun in Huntington, West Virginia

We stopped in Huntington, West Virginia to visit Patsy's high school friend EJ Tappan. They were best friends growing up and have reconnected through Facebook (haven't we all!). She showed the highlights of Huntington which include Marshall University, a yummy dive called Cam's Hams and of course the annual fire prevention parade where our kids were pelted with exactly 307 pounds of candy. It was getting to meet EJ and for Patsy to see her friend again. We got to meet her Siamese cat and Blake got a few tips on photo and video editing from a master! This is one of the great benefits of traveling all over the country, meeting up with people we have not seen in years.

Campground Review - Flatwoods KOA

We were excited to find a campground with an indoor pool on our way through West Virginia! The Flatwoods KOA is owned by a hotel and guests can use the pool and hot tub!

Staff - 6 - Hotel staff checks you in. No staff to be found in the actual campground.

Nearby attractions - 6 - About an hour from Charleston and Morgantown.

Natural surroundings - 8 - Not far from the interstate but you never feel like you are close by. We saw a deer in the evening as the kids were playing on playground.

Value - 6 - We paid $40 using our KOA card a night for a pull-through gravel site.

Bathrooms - 8 - Bathrooms were heated and clean.

Roominess - 7 - Site was long enough but slightly smallish in the width.

Facility fun - 8 - Heated indoor pool, hot tub, playground, game room.

Cleanliness - 9 -  Nice and fresh!

Facility usefulness - 7 - Dump station, fire rings, laundry, picnic tables. 

Overall - 8 - Enjoyed a nice swim and then a sit in the hot tub!

50 McDonalds - West Virginia

Our McDonalds stop in West Virginia was the opposite of the Pennsylvania stop. In Pittsburgh only Patsy and I got a breakfast sandwich. In Morgantown, West Virginia we only bought lunch for the kids. Patsy and I had a Philly Cheese Sandwich from the original Hero Hut! The sandwiches were on sale for the Mountaineers game and they were warm and yummy! So everyone was happy here!!
